Summer of Fun Week 3

This was an exhausting week.  We didn't do much but Cooper had VBS all week from 6-9. He got to bed late every night, therefore my down time was very little before I went to sleep.  He had a blast and I love that we found a great church for him to go, ours no longer holds VBS, but I am glad to be back on a routine.

Cameron enjoyed all his one on one time this week, Monday he worked on his poster he earned from the library.

The rain was coming in on Tuesday so we settled down from some down time with Star Wars and goldfish.

Wednesday was set to be the coolest day of the week so we went for a walk on the Big 4 Bridge.

We spent all afternoon at the pool on Thursday.  Cameron needed new swim trunks, I found some Spider-Man ones at Target, they were buy one get one half off so Cooper lucked out with some Batman ones.

I went to the gym Friday morning and on the way home my mom called to see if I would like to meet her in Corydon for lunch and to visit with my aunt.  My kids would not know what to do living in the country.  They did however like feeding the chickens.

These next few weren't part of my Instagram summer of fun pics but I don't have a full blog post for them.

Cooper had a follow-up ENT appointment last week.  It was to recheck some fluid build up that he had after some ear infections.  I was 100% prepared to go in there and schedule for tubes for the 4th time, but after some prayer it was all gone!!!  I could cried.  We went back this week to finally get him fitted for swim molds. Now that he jumping in and and swimming under water we need to protect those ears.  He did so good getting the molds taken. We got back this week for allergy testing, just in case there is something triggering the infections, and back the next week to pick up the molds.  Yes, we are living at the ENT this summer.

This is from the gym Friday morning. My boys go way back with Hawk and Rome, their mom used to teach Jazzercise so they would play there, now we both just do the Y so they still get to play.  We left before Hawk did and I couldn't get them to stop saying bye through the window.

Just because they are cute, two more chicken pics.  Despite being city boys. they did enjoy their day in the country and have already asked to go back.

You may only get weekly posts from me, but I'm enjoying the challenge to document at least one thing everyday.  It's a short summer and I want to enjoy every minute of it.

Summer of Fun Week 2

Last Sunday we were headed home from my in-laws for our Father's Day/Scott's birthday dinner, we stopped by the church to check out the youth's wet and wild kick ball night. Who cares that the boys were fully clothes, no towels, and it was nearing bedtime.  It's summer!

 Monday- Newport Aquarium

Tuesday- We were having a movie night, the boys had their blankets on the floor and I was on the couch.  This little one crawled up with me to lay with his momma.

Wednesday- Bat's game

Thursday- Indiana Caverns

Friday- Bowling

Saturday- Charlestown Founder's Day Parade and free popsicles.

Well, Steve is back to work this week so our Instagram/Summer of Fun pics will have to get more creative.  Cooper has VBS all this week until 9 so we are gonna be exhausted by week end, but that isn't that what summer is all about?

Finishing up the Week

We are finishing up Steve's week off of work and we are exhausted, but that is only because we are having a blast.

We went to that Bats game on Wednesday.  It was a daytime game, at 11:45, so it got super hot.  Luckily we were in the shade under the awning.

No trip to the ballpark is complete without yummy food and Buddy Bat.

Thursday we went to Indiana Caverns for a cave tour. This is the one that also includes a boat ride inside the cave.

Always trying to learn something.

Since we were already in Corydon we made a quick trip to the battle park for a little more education.  The only Civil War battle spot fought in Indiana.

We all took naps this day, even Cooper. After complaining he didn't have anything to do, because Holiday World, an aquarium, swimming, baseball game, and cave tour isn't enough, he curled up next to me on the couch and fell asleep.

We took the kids bowling today, we haven't been in over 3 years.  That needs to change.  I forget how fun, and inexpensive, this can be.

For the record, Cooper beat me by one pin and I tied with Cameron.  I blame it on the fact that they got to use bumpers.

My kids aren't going to know what to do with themselves come Monday, I guess what every other kid does- entertain themselves.
Also a big shout out to Steve.  He has been working 2 jobs pretty consistently since the holidays. After his regular full time job he sees 2, sometimes 3, home health patients a week.  He sees each patient twice a week.  Then he also works some weekends at Southern Indiana Rehab. So I guess you would say some weeks he works 3 jobs.  None of this week would have been possible without that extra income.  It's a sacrifice for us all but we greatly appreciate it.

Newport Aquarium

Monday morning we headed out to the Newport Aquarium.  It was a first for all of us.

The boys were amazed my the sharks and I have to admit, I was too. Although, being in the shark tunnel looking up to a shark above your head can be a little creepy.

I don't know if you can see that back there behind the glass, but that is Mighty Mike, a giant, giant alligator.

This is how Cooper and Cameron would measure up to Mighty Mike.  Couldn't even get him in the while picture.

Love these next two.

Frogs!

I touched a shark but Cooper didn't get the courage up to do it.  They were swimming toward the bottom of the tank so I think he might have been scared to lean over too much.

The aquarium was a little smaller than I had expected.  I don't know if I will make that drive just for the aquarium only.  Don't get me wrong, we had fun, it was something new and we spent the day as a family.  I was just surprised at how quickly we got done.  I did like the sharks though :)

Since we were done so early we took the scenic route home and drove through Madison.  Madison has so much character and I love little towns like that.
It was a good day and I've enjoyed the freedom of not having a real schedule this week.

Summer of Fun Week 1

I mentioned in one of my previous posts that I was going to document one thing per day (weekdays) that we do this summer, post it on Instagram, and then post here once a week. It's just my way of trying to be intentional about having fun this summer, given how short it is, and keeping up with blogging as well.

Day 1 started off at 3:00 pm last Friday with a trip to the splash park in Charlestown with some friends. We were all pumped for summer to begin.

Monday- we all worked on sticky mosaic's for over an hour that morning.  Cooper got two packages for his birthday, he did one around the holidays then it got put away.  We finished both packages off over the course of two days.  Search Orb Factory Mosaic on Amazon, I find them quite relaxing.

Tuesday- I had a hair appointment in the morning and had to take the boys with me. They both had on their pajamas, Cameron had his shoes on the wrong feet, and neither had brushed their teeth.  Just keeping it real.

Wednesday- We went to the mall to play and have snacks with the Reid's.  The day started off rainy so it was a good way to get out of the house.

Thursday- I think we finally found our groove of all three of us being home and the boys stopped fighting so much and less tears were shed this day.  I made some cloud dough ( 8 cups of flour and 1 cup baby oil).  It wasn't long before they made "snowballs" and threw them at one another.

Friday- This was our Holiday World day.  A great way to kick off our summer staycation 2014.

Holiday World 2014

Steve started his week long vacation today, also known as our week long staycation.  We have some fun activities planned for next week but needed one more big one, to kick things off.  We literally decided on Holiday World Monday night and didn't tell the kids until this morning.  I love surprises.

Hey everyone let's give a thumbs up, or a funny face.

I have no idea what is going on in these next two pictures, we were just on the old time cars but they sure were enjoying themselves.

We had the turkey whirl going and along with that lots and lots of laughter.

Check out Cooper's shirt.  We rode the Raging Rapids twice, back to back. The park was pretty much empty, we had no waits on almost all the rides. We also rode the log ride twice in a row.  We were all soaked.

These next few pictures may be my favorites, just love the look of pure happiness.

Cooper told Santa he wanted a light up talking Iron Man mask and Cameron said a Captain America shield, you know something we already have.

Cameron asked to look at the map on the way home and fell asleep before we got to the highway.

We opted out of the water park again this year.  Until we can do a two day pass something I just don't want to take away time in the park for the rides, which my boys love.  However, with the low crowds today it may have worked out to do both.
We are getting to awkward stage with Holiday World or amusement parks of any kind.  My kids are getting to the age where they prefer the bigger rides but aren't tall enough to ride some of them and kiddie rides don't really cut it for them.  When they reach 48 inches it will be on.

It was a great day to kick off our week of fun. Just love these days we can spend as a family.
