Trip to Indy

My mom, Cooper, and myself traveled to Indianapolis for a cousin's baby shower today. Cooper didn't nap very long on the way there so he was a little cranky on the way home. I'm not for sure what was stressing me out more; Cooper throwing his pacifier every 10 minutes then whining about it because he wanted it back, or my mother singing The Bee Gees like she was trying out for American Idol the whole way home. I was never so thankful to be home tonight.

Hidden Cameras?

I think there may be hidden cameras following us around these days. About a month ago we hired our friend Josh to build us a fence. We live on a corner lot and we only needed one side fenced in since our neighbors and the people behind us both have privacy fences. Josh did an awesome job and soon as we finish staining it I will post pictures. Anyway, the first day he worked on it he accidentally cut our Insight line. No big deal, Insight fixed it the very next day for no charge. I will say it's a good thing we have DirecTV and not cable though, I would have been furious if I missed American Idol that night. Back to the story, they had to re-wire to the house and they would have to have someone else come bury the line in a few weeks. They showed up this week buried the line and it was out of our way. That evening I noticed our phone wasn't working. We called AT&T, they came out today and Insight knicked our telephone line while they were out here earlier this week. Now we have a new telephone line that needs buried. I'm waiting to see what line they cut.

Spoke to Soon

Last week at Cooper's doctor's visit we were talking about how he hadn't had a sick visit between his last two well visits and if you don't count the one ear infection that wouldn't heal that had us in there multiple times for the same reason, he really hasn't had one since his year visit. Well of course, I spoke too soon. Earlier this morning I noticed some bumps on his legs, I thought they might be little bug bites since he was outside yesterday, no big deal. Right before nap I noticed it had gotten a little worse. Still didn't think too much of it, then after Steve got home I pointed it out again and it had spread. They were all over his belly, knee, ankles, some on his back, his belly looked awful. So I called the doctor and they were able to get me in at 5:00. Of course when I left the house they had started to fade, then I got in the office and they were back, this time on his leg. They just kept spreading and fading and jumping from one body part to the next, so weird. Turns out it was hives. He hasn't eaten anything different in the past few days, no new detergent, nothing. There really wasn't an explanation. She gave me the dosage of children's Benadryl, we are to keep an eye on it and hopefully it gets better. The Benadryl worked great, as of bedtime they were all gone.

I Forgot

Cooper weighed 22 lb 11oz and was 32 inches. This makes him 10th for weight and 15th for height. Of course his head was 75th again. He has gained 3 lbs since in 6 months and grew 5 inches. His 12 months pants are finally the right length.

18 Months

On Tuesday my darling little boy turned 18 months, is that even possible? We are almost out of the stage where we say old he is in years and not months. Time goes by way too fast.

Today we had his well visit with Dr. Howell so we started off with a trip to Chick-fil-A for a treat. We meet Jess, one of the Jazzercise instructors, and her three boys there for lunch and some playtime. I had given Cooper some chocolate milk twice before today, although very little chocolate, I got him a bottle at lunch since he was about to have a rough hour, he guzzled it. After lunch we headed over to the doctor's office, our appointment was at an odd time, I knew he would most likely fall asleep on the way home due to the shot and getting upset so I had to schedule it around lunch which left us with a bit of a wait, but you do what you have to do. It made it so much easier that Steve took off a half day to join us. Anyway, he did great as always. Got a little fussy when the doctor was examining him, he hates to be held still. He only cried for about 15 seconds after his shot and was happy again. The funniest moment came right after his shot, I was was holding him and he usually goes to me for comfort, but I guess he thought I caused his pain because he immediately cried out "da-da" and reached for Steve. Everything looked great and he doesn't go back for another 6 months. Dr. Howell said after seeing us at least every 2-3 months for the past 18 months then it's time to start on number 2 so we get to visit more often again. I said we will have to think about it.

Like Mother Like Son

I just asked Cooper if he was ready for his nap, he looks at me with a smile and says what I think is "night-night". So I say, yes we are going night night. He runs to his room babbling something exciting, I pick him up and give him his pacifier put him in bed and he is out. Only my son would get that excited about nap time.

Big Boy Purchases

This week we made two big boy purchases. The first was a potty seat. Now I realize this will not come into use for quite a while, but it's worth having just in case. The second was a booster seat for the kitchen table. We could have switched a few months and I did buy one last month but the straps didn't fit our chair. I got the chair out yesterday, strapped it in the chair and we are good to go. He looks like such a big boy. I think he likes eating at that table now. In the second picture he is trying to pull something off the table, that I'm going to have to look out for.

Happy Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day to all the wonderful mommies out there. Hope you had a great weekend. Isn't being a mommy great?
Saturday also happened to be my mom's birthday, she had a busy weekend this week working at a jewelry show and painting her house so Cooper and I ran her gifts up to her on Saturday and we are going to try to plan for dinner soon. Then we celebrated on Sunday with Steve's family. After church we went to Cheddar's for lunch then after Cooper's nap we went to the Pie Kitchen for dessert. Dessert for dinner is awesome!!! I started Jazz It Off today so I needed one good last weekend for splurging.

Here is a picture of my two favorite people at lunch. I have no idea why Steve isn't smiling, you should see some of the good pics that Gretchen & Tracey have taken of him.

The family.
Here I am about to open my gift, notice the picture below this, Steve recycled his bag from last year. It's says Super Dad, but Steve did some redecorating. I got a Dillard's gift card and a new Vera Bradley wallet, which Steve picked out all on his own. I'm so proud. He also got me a recordable card with Cooper trying to say "love you momma". How sweet is that?

Look how small my baby is.

And finally my Mother's Day kiss.

New Pants

Last week I was changing Cooper so we could go outside. I put some new shorts on him and noticed they were a little big. We were just staying in our yard so that didn't matter to me, I went in the other room to get my shoes, came back into the living room and this is what I found.

Birthday Girl

That would be me, this past Sunday I turned the big 3-0! I'm kind of excited to be entering my 30's, I heard they are supposed to be the best years of your life. Seeing as I waited until I was 28 to start having children I think I would have to agree. My 30's are going to be spent raising and spending time with my child(ren). THIS DOES NOT MEAN I AM HAVING ANOTHER ANYTIME IN THE NEAR FUTURE.
Anyway, I spent the weekend with family. On Saturday we went to Steve's brothers for dinner and to watch the races. Did I mention I had the winning Derby horse? My mom was at Derby party and I had her place a $2 bet for me, there was a limit on the payout so I didn't win as much as I could have had I been at the track, but I still won $50. Sunday we went to my parents for dinner, Enchiladas and No-Bake Cookies, two of my favorites. Steve and Cooper gave me my present when we got home, just what I needed a new Vera Bradley bag!!! A girl can never have too many purses.

Caught Red-Handed

You need to know two things to understand this post, first my son loves, and I mean loves, to play with DVD'.s He loves to pull them off the shelf and try to open them and get them out. He knows that this is a big no-no and for the most part he does stay away from them. Two, we are in the process of cleaning out our computer room to convert into a toy room and eventually into Cooper's bedroom when he is ready for a toddler bed. Right now that room is full of yard sale items needed to be priced for this weekend. So, now on to the story. Earlier this week I found Cooper in the computer room and he had gotten a hold of a DVD that is to be sold and found the jackpot. In case you are wondering that is an American Idol best of DVD, yes I am a nerd. He had the biggest grin on his face when I walked in there. Technically he wasn't near the DVD shelf.

Cooper Update

A few people have asked how Cooper is doing, thank you for your concern, he is doing much better!!! He only threw up those two times on Wed and we stuck with a starchy diet for a couple of days, but he isn't really hungry at all. On Friday he did have a messy (I won't go into too much detail, you get this picture) diaper four times and one this morning. I called the pediatric care service last night since our office was closed and they said viral infections could last 4-5 days but as long as he is keeping some foods down and is urinating, then he should be okay. The strangest part is him not wanting to eat. I called to check on him while I was out Friday (pre-crash) and my mother-in-law said he didn't want his blueberry muffin. That is so not my child. I may take him into the doctor on Monday if he doesn't regain his appetite and continues with messy diapers. But he isn't showing signs of dehydration so I'm not too concerned at this point.

A Day to Remember

About a month ago I got an invitation from Karen to treat me to pedicure, manicure and lunch for my birthday. It's actually Sunday but she had Friday off so we made the date. Steve's mom came over to watch Cooper and all was set. We left around 9:00 am and headed to Walmart. We were going to use their salon plus what is a girls day out without first having to buy some diapers. We finished up with the nails around 11:30 and headed to El Nopal. We were stopped in front of the restaurant, turn signal on, waiting for traffic to clear, I could already taste the white queso, when this happened...... This picture doesn't really show how bad it was. Her trunk was smashed in so when the trunk was down in looked worse. At first we were both in shock, I mean it wasn't like we just stopped suddenly, we had been stopped long enough to let a at least 4-5 cars passed. It probably didn't help her car either that a truck probably twice the size of her Civic was what hit it. I have to give it to Karen, she didn't panic. If it would have my car I don't think I could have stayed as calm. There was a nice gentleman who stopped to make sure we were okay and offered himself as a witness, he wanted to make sure the cops knew that we were in fact stopped for a while and had our turn signal on. It all happened so fast I am still in a little shock, it was my first car accident. I almost made it 30 years. Most importantly, Karen & I are both going good and believe or not neither one of us are sore, as of yet. We both agreed if we do end up with soreness or tightness or recurring headaches in the next few days we are going to the doctor just for documentation. But I think we will be fine, another good reason to buy a Honda!!!!

Karen has also posted on her blog, click here for her account. At the end she gives a good driving lesson on why to never turn your steering wheel until you actually go to turn. She may have saved my life! But boy I do wish I could have had some queso.
